Facebook’s “F8 Conference”

At Open House last September, Mrs. Filippi, our assistant principal, and I spoke a bit about the future ready movement in education…discussing, among other things, the importance of providing our current students with the skills necessary to be successful in their post schooling years. We identified the Four C’s – communicating, collaborating, creating, and critical thinking – as essential skills that will allow our students to be #futureready and prepared to work in industries that may not even exist today.

A few days ago, Mark Zuckerberg outlined Facebook’s 10 year plan. In it, he provided a vision for the future that, in part, does not exist yet but is also not far off either. It is a worthwhile 30 minute speech that, given our students’ exceptional talents, drive, and motivation, very much speaks to our goals and long-term wishes for our future leaders and innovators!

Isn’t anything interesting happening at your school? Your blog is about Zuckerberg?!

Thanks for reaching out, Pete. There’s a lot of great things happening at my school and in my district right now. We will be completely redoing our library Media Center this summer, including the building of a SMART lab. Our kids will have opportunities that will allow them to think critically, problem-solve, collaborate, etc…Skills that will prepare them for the world that Mark Zuckerberg talked about in his speech!
